Better than the Nuvi 350 September 10, 2010 BluegrassPicker The redesigned display on this generation of Nuvis is basically intuitive and well done. Information is usefully displayed without being too crowded. My 265wt locks onto satellites faster than the 350 did, although it is by no means instantaneous. Moreover, there doesn't seem to be any way of watching the 265 series acquire satellites; the 350 had that provision.
One negative on the 265 is that the touch screen requires much force than the 350 did. I worried that adding a screen protector would make things worse, but it seems to have had no effect. But, screen protector or not, the 265 screen isn't as sensitive as it should be.
The 265wt does not appear to remember whether I want traffic to be displayed on the navigation map. Accordingly, when the traffic icon appears, I have to press it and then select that option, even though I had already made that very selection on a previous occasion. I have yet to encounter any traffic tie-ups, so it's not yet clear how the Nuvi will perform under those circumstances. It is possible to configure the settings so the GPS does not automatically route around traffic problems; that might be a good thing to do if -- as some users have reported -- your 265wt detects traffic jams where they don't actually exist.
I purchased my GPS at Costco, and it came with the latest (2011) maps. I was unable to determine whether Amazon's product would have been that up to date. Although Garmin provides free map updates within 60 days of first use, there are enough horror stories about the map updates that I preferred to avoid that scenario.
just worth the price September 10, 2010 Hyung Seob Kim two issues that prevented me to give four stars:
- searching tool is very slow
- satellite signal reception in some occasion seems to be difficult without any reason ( i suspect it is refurbished issue)
also, make sure you update the map especially when you are about to travel with it. i got the box and was traveling from nyc to dc without update and lots of left turn was no longer allowed
features i like:
- compared to other reviews, i found the traffic information was pretty accurate (i guess this depends on your fm traffic update on your region). i live in nyc area and it is always giving me the right traffic information. also, the traffic information in baltimore and dc area when i traveled there was very good.
- bluetooth works pretty well with access to the phone book
overall, for just over 100$ including blootooth and traffic info, it think it is worth it.
I never got lost! September 10, 2010 hammer (Spring City, TN) I ordered the Garmin 265WT because I was planning a trip through some pretty remote country and had never been in this region before. I traveled from Seattle to Mt. Rainier, through the Yakima Valley to Walla Walla wine country, to Grand Coulee Damn, to Glacier National Park, to Calgary, to Banff, to Jasper, to Canadian wine country, wineries, to Vancouver, to Victoria, to Olympic National Park and in 2 weeks never got lost!!! The GPS located hotels, gas stations, points of interest, restaurants, cities, towns, traffic problems, detours, etc. Just an incredible piece of technology. Also the bluetooth worked better than any I have ever seen, just wonderful.
It was ok, but I returned it September 9, 2010 PhillyGirl (Philly, Pa USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Let me just start by saying I really wanted to like this product and was disappointed I had to return it. It's a good deal for the price, but just didn't work when I actually needed it.
I used this GPS the first few days on my every day routes such as my friend's house and work. It was great and took me the direction I usually go anyway. The traffic updates were alright, but only work on major roads, so it's not really useful for everyday commutes if you are driving locally. Anyways, it was easy to use and accurate thus far. Also the Bluetooth was awesome, it found my phone right away and I was up and running in 20 seconds.
The real test came when my family and I took this to go to Atlantic City. It took us there alright, but was a nightmare on the way back. We came out of a parking garage in one of the casinos, so we gave it a while to see if it would be able to determine where we were, but it would just keep saying "Drive to highlighted route", the when we did, it would recalculate and say we were actually somewhere else now and say to drive to highlighted route again.
I was a bit annoyed that for half an hour as we drove around the same area, it could not figure out where we were where there were dozens of landmarks all around us. I returned it because I got the GPS so it would tell me where to go when I was in a place I wasn't familiar with. The fact that it did well on roads I already knew was of no use.
I Like It--but.... September 8, 2010 Neil R. Borodkin (nyack, ny) This my first GPS so I little to compare it to, but while the voice is clear, the volume could definitely be louder.
Appears easy to use.
